# Defining the system boundaries The limits of a system The system to be investigated asks for putting aside neighboring similar systems as well as a limitation towards the superior system and the subsystems included within the system in question. This is important to guarantee the same level of aggregation, i.e. the degree of detailing when describing the system with the components chosen later on. Some system investigations therefore ask for a hierarchic subdivision with interlocking levels.
