5-SYSTEMIC ROLES

Cybernetic Role of the Variables in the System

UPPER LEFT: Here you find active levers stabilizing themselves after changes (plastic stability).

UPPER RIGHT: Here your find enhancing and catalyzing elements which are useful to indicate things. But uncontrollable building up or tipping over are possible. Therefore you have to pay high attention to these elements (to be handled with "kid gloves").

MID RIGHT: Especially dangerous if interlined bundles of variables are situated in the critical-reactive position.

CENTER: Neutral between active, passive, buffering and critical. The system cannot be steered easily with these components. But they are useful for self-regulation.

LOWER RIGHT: Steering interventions have only cosmetic effects (symptom curing). But these elements are very suitable as indicators and also for experiments.

LOWER LEFT: Region of useless interventions and controls because of their inertia. But could show a behavior like a "wolf in sheep's clothing", if no attention is paid or the upper- or threshold limits are passed.

LOWER LEFT: Here you find weak levers with small side-effects.
