# INFLUENCE MATRIX Evaluation of the strength of influences Ten Guidelines for Influence Matrix.BMP Allocation of Values in Influence Matrix.pdf List of Effects (Influence Matrix).pdf "This process refines the definition of the variables by exploring their behaviors--how the effect each other. This learning can be added to the definition of the variable."

# Methodical Approach First you have to print the empty matrix as well as the descriptions of the variables and distribute the copies among the three working groups A, B, and C etc..

Each group should also get the 10 rules (actually instructions, see below)in order to fill out the matrix of influences correctly (it can be printed by clicking the button MATERIAL).

In order to get a feeling for the procedure, we recommend to evaluate at first one line with all the other participants. This way each variable has already been discussed in view of its reaction.

If you like to know more about the functions of the matrix of influences, you will find out by clicking the other buttons of this INFO-window.

# Background Information With this tool we go from the level of components to the level of their interactions. *** For this the set of variables appears in a cross impact matrix where the effect of every variable upon any another will be asked for. The question is: If variable A changes, how strong are the changes in variable B by direct interaction? *** During this step, which will be carried out in three or more separate groups, you will get to know your system from a new point of view. *** Some variables will therefore be redefined and described anew, until the groups are in consensus about the evaluations. *** The result will be a 'consensus matrix' that is the basis for the calculation of the INDEX OF INFLUENCE of each variable, that is: between 'active' and 'reactive' on one hand and between 'critical' and 'buffering' on the other. *** These positions will enter the tool SYSTEMIC ROLE, where every variable is evaluated cybernetically due to its interdependencies.

The **Guidelines** for working with the Influence Matrix (Consensus Matrix) 1. Necessary precondition: system relevant set of variables 2. The question must be: "If I change A, how strongly will B be changed? 3. The strength of influence is 0, 1, 2, or 3. 4. Enter only direct effects 5. Attention to the direction of effects (only "effect from A to B", not "effect between A and B". 6. Work through horizontal line after horizontal line. 7. Work only with partners (never alone). 8. Three independent groups should fill out the matrix 9. Consensus matrix with redefinition of the variables. 10. Renewed orientation of the variables.
